My entire life I’ve struggled to focus.
Over the course of 10 years I tried and failed to create more businesses than I can count.
Let me know if this sounds familiar:
-
"I have so many ideas but nothing has happened for months.”
-
"I don’t know which idea to focus on.”
-
"Other people are SO far ahead of me.”
If you feel any of the above You Are Not Alone.
It took one mindset shift and everything changed for me. See here's the truth.
Beginners follow their passion. But the truth is "Focus On Your Passion" Is B.S.
Instead you need to find out when people take out their wallets to pay for services. Build your business around that. If passion is your north star for your business you will fail.
How To Choose Between Ideas
One thing I like about my entrepreneurial spirit is my drive. I’m hungry. I’m dedicated. I’m ambitious like a mofo. One thing I HATE about my entrepreneurial spirit is that I like shiny things. I’ve worked a lot on this but to be candid I’m still really attracted to the quick fix. That’s why the next IDEA is so darn attractive to me.
Step 1 - Record Your Ideas

The first step is to get all of your ideas down on a piece of paper. Take 10 minutes now and write down the top 5 business ideas that you have. This is a Huge step!
Step 2 - Run Your Ideas Through A Filter
[ IMGUR Link: Prioritizing Your Ideas]
I started an online business a few years ago. I offered financial advice to caregivers of the elderly. From many angles this was a great business idea. But the business failed because I didn’t run the idea through the appropriate filters.
-
Do you know people who have paid $ for this in the past?
-
Can you test the idea cheaply / quickly?
-
Do you have something to offer / experience in this area?
There are the critical questions that you want to filter each of your ideas through. (To find out the questions click here to see the full post).
Step 3: Choose Your Business Idea To Test

If you’re trying to decide between a couple ideas go with the one that feels more feasible for you in the short-term. The great thing is now that you have the list you can always come back to it to pick up your next idea. Instead of being ruled by emotions we’re now creating a system!
How To Stay Committed
Choosing a good idea to test is a great first step. However it will not prevent you from doubting the idea in the future. Doubt is common.
I’ve tried many things, including: beating myself up, hiding in my bed under the sheets, screaming, and questioning everything.
Over the years one thing however has worked better than anything else.
Find someone who is also an entrepreneur (at the same stage as you or is a few steps ahead). Talk to them for 15 minutes in person or over the phone each week.
If you're interested in this topic and want a more in depth look I wrote a 2,600 word post that expands on the subject.
