I'm covered by my parents' health insurance plan for another year, which is great, except their plan changed at the start of the year and my healthcare costs are now through the roof. Example: I've been on Humalog for the past 17 years. It was costing me $140 for 15 pens on the old plan. New plan: won't cover Humalog, forcing me to switch to Novolog, and it now costs $55 for two pens.
On Friday, I got five medical bills in the mail. Together they are charging me $1,185.50. This would have been a fraction of the cost on the old healthcare plan. Had I known about the plan changes, I would have been able to explore other options available to me through the ACA during the open enrollment period. But because I didn't find out about any of this until February (when I had to go get the Novolog pens), I'm totally fucked until the end of the year. I make pretty decent money, but at these prices, I feel like I literally can't afford to live.
Canadians, Brits, Australians, and anyone else who lives in a country where I can actually afford to stay alive: I am single and willing to sell my soul for you to marry me so that I can get in on your healthcare system.
I don't even have the words to explain how upset I am right now. I basically have to pay a second rent to stay alive just because I had the absolute shit luck to develop a couple of pretty serious chronic health issues (diabetes being just one of the other health issues I have).
I'll find a way to get this sorted out, but for now, can I just leave this rant here?
