Sister needs a new kidney and pancreas, anyone have experience with organ transplant?

My older sister is starting dialysis this next week until she can get a new kidney and pancreas. I want to know if anyone has been through it and what to expect. She's been diabetic for almost 20 years and I imagine the transition will be quite jarring to have a functioning pancreas again, plus recovery from surgery.
