Likewise every buisness "section" has competition. Let's say you are building a forum website. There arent as many competitiors in the market, there are perhpas only 3/4 competitions, which is quora and reddit, twitter, fb. (just a made up scenario, im sure theres more)
But let's say yours is unique, your forum website offers a better "upvote/downvote system" , better support, much better and friendly UI,etc. Let's also say that there are quite a few people that also complains that their "reddit's upvote system is poorly designed, bla bla bla and it wouldve been better if they re designed it". Now you got that covered! in your website, you got a better system!
But the question is how do you bring those thousands of people who usually visits reddit/quora everyday to to your "better" designed company? how would you bring the attention? TV advertisement? not enough money, yet. And the problem goes on. Im speaking for the entrepernuers who dosent have enough money for "tv ads", how would you market it?
and at the same time, if reddit ever improves their upvote system, wouldnt your small-business be entirely screwed over?
