A quote from Darwin worth taking to heart

It is not the most intellectual of the species that survives; it is not the strongest that survives; but the species that survives is the one that is able best to adapt and adjust to the changing environment in which it finds itself.

By the way, the title was a bit of clickbait. It's actually a misattribution. Leon C. Megginson was paraphrasing Darwin.

That doesn't make the idea any less valid. I had conversations with several of you yesterday regarding when a correct "stopping point" would be to decide that something isn't worth pursuing anymore. I shared a view links from /r/askreddit threads about people who had failed their dreams, mostly by ignoring the market. I also exchanged my story with someone and in telling my own story realized what a ridiculous series of events it has been to lead me to this point. But I also realized why I've been able to get away with things and survive to this point: I have incredibly high adaptability.

I wanted to post this as a gentle reminder that I think applies perfectly to entrepreneurial endeavors. It is not the most clever product that survives. It is not the objectively "best" product from a design/engineering standpoint that survives. It is the product which has best adapted to the market it finds itself in. Doing graduate work in space systems and engineering has taught me to be absolutely ruthless in design efficiency because if you use a moving part where one isn't necessary they will nail your balls to the fucking wall. Food for thought.
