Let's be honest, some people are just better at plot mapping an idea than they are at executing it. Either that or they just have better things they could be doing with their time.
Putting together a task list (very detailed) and delivering it to a person who works at an $8/10 hour rate compared to working on things at your own hourly rate should work out like this -
If you know something is going to take you 3 hours, and your hourly rate for other clients is $40/hr - Then you are at a loss of $120. You need to climb out of the red with whatever you worked on by more than that in order to remain at a personal black.
Now, spending 1 hour creating a detailed task list and paying someone $10/hr for 5 hours of work...saves money (savings of $30). You are still in the red $90, but that is counteracted by the 2 hours of time you saved yourself...leaving you with a loss of $10.
You might not think that this is technically correct, and obviously it doesn't apply to EVERYONE...but I figured I would go ahead and bring this up as I am asked about this regularly.
The world is full of talented people who are in dire need of funding. They need their ideas funded, they need food on their table, and you may need the spare time to work on other projects.
