Success has a lot to do with your sense of being Find out how to train yourself to make money and stay in tune with your mind, body and soul
I see this often, and frankly I'm tired of this kind of thinking.
One of the arguments often brought in the favor of NOT launching a startup, is "this has been invented already, check this one, and that one. Those big guys are killing at it. You shouldn't try to compete with them... are you nuts? Try something else."
I see this WAY too often. And many startups get killed by this nonsense because their potential owners actually believe this stuff. "Jesus, so my secret idea is actually not new...?!" And many quit after that. Come on, guys... haven't you heard that nothing is new under the sun?
If this rationale had any sense, Facebook would never exist, and MySpace would rule the world. Same with Google vs. Altavista for example. Even mighty Google... owns about 60% of the search market. But what about the rest...? Yes, it's divided, but still worth billions. Hell - if only I got just 1% of that pie.
In fact, every startup IS different by nature - unless you are stupid enough to try to closely replicate another. What is better if you can tell me, MailChimp vs. Aweber vs. GetResponse? MySQL vs. PostgreSQL vs MariaDB? Windows vs Mac vs Linux? Each user will have a different reply for each such question. Windows is not the only operating system, and Apple is not the only phone.
Finally, there's so much space in the startup world... you just have to be different. And chances are, you ARE going to be different even if you don't intend this. Sometimes all it takes is slightly better customer support. Not even better pricing. That's it. You're on.
For example: I own a business that buys and sells industrial stuff. It's probably unique in our niche. We compete with large corporations with millions in stock, large contracts and volume, and the best price. We are smaller, and the most expensive in the market. And the products are the price-sensitive kind. We buy from the corporations and sell with a significant margin. We are probably the most expensive, but guess what - our customers love us, for responsiveness, for our guaranteed return policy, and finally our care. This business should not exist in a price-sensitive niche. Yet it's here for 9 years already.
If only one has the guts to try it, and then the willpower to push it ahead, until they finally see the bright light. And not believe everything said to them, especially morale-wrecking kind of stuff.
