[Experiment] Making mobile apps accessible for small businesses

hey /r/entrepreneur,

I run a software dev shop, where we've built a ton of mobile and web apps. Started thinking lately how to scale our service and came up with an idea to make mobile app dev. cheaper for all of you. It's experimental and not sure how it will play out, but here's the idea:

  • Instead of getting your mobile app developed for $20k+, you'll be able to do so for $450/mo
  • This includes design, development, launch and hosting
  • Simple apps only, with a <6 weeks turnaround

In order to make this model work, there are a few 'catches'

  • We own the code and host the app for you under our own license. If people stop paying their subscription, at least we can take the app offline. If you want to own your code, you can simply pay the full app dev cost and in that case it's business as usual.

  • The app needs to be free, since we don't want to handle cashflow. If you were planning to make millions off your app, this is not for you ;)

  • The app's complexity needs to be minimal. We'll HAVE to niche down in the near future (for example, by providing this service only for Restaurant apps) that way we can control complexity of the app and filter out the right type of clients. However... at this stage we're open to any request and if simple enough, we'll take it. This helps us learn and get in contact with a variety of niches.

Question:

  • Do you think this model would make it more accessible for you to have your app developed?
  • What niches would this service benefit the most?
  • Want to make a request and try out the service? PM me
