Question about Intellectual Property (particularly in Canada). Any of you patent or copyright holders?

Hi reddit,

I'm launching a small SaaS business this September, and have secured a launch partner. Without getting into details, I have many existing competitors in the space that haven't updated their software in years.

I've created two very simple, but important features that I believe will significantly distinguish my product and provide a competitive advantage. No one else has thought of these, they don't seem to exist anywhere else.

Should I be seeking intellectual property protection at this stage for these features? For perspective, my revenue will likely be near $10k this fall with approximately $5k in expenses.

I'd love to hear especially from people who have been in this type of situation before, and in particular those of you who have gone down this path who could share details about time, cost and process.

Thanks reddit!
