Registering a small business name in the USA- help?

I'm posting on behalf of my boyfriend as we are both unsure how this works. He wants to advertise himself as a horse trainer, but wants to do this in Europe as there is more of a market there plus he's already met people through his current work willing to hire him from various European countries.

So from this I understand he must be self-employed and register his business, then set up a bank account in that business's name. What are the proper channels to do this? As neither of us have a clue where to get started.

From there I'm not sure what the legalities are regarding working in another country but FOR a US company/self-employed, so if you have any idea on that, that would also be very helpful! This is all in the teething stages anyway so we are just trying to figure things out and the best way to go about this.
