Does anyone here use Google Apps?

I've been wanting to switch to Google apps for a while now, but there are some questions I have. Since there's no phone number to call Google at, I figured here might be a good place to start.

My question is if I were to pay for Google Apps, would I lose all of my emails for a specific email address?

For instance I use bluedog@gmail.com as my gmail account. But I have a lot of important emails there as well for an email account of mine john@bluedog.com (both sent emails and received emails).

If I were to pay for google apps for john@bluedog.com, what would happen to my emails, docs, spreadsheets, etc?
