How big of a disadvantage will it be to use a domain extension that isn't .com?

Success has a lot to do with your sense of being Find out how to train yourself to make money and stay in tune with your mind, body and soul

Hi all,

Ordinarily, I wouldn't consider using anything other than a .com, however, for the idea I have and the niche I am trying to enter, a lot of the best domains are already owned. So I am exploring the idea of using an alternate domain extension.

This site would earn revenue primarily thru ads, and the subject matter is educational. The content I post today would continue to be useful 5 years from now.

In my example, I would like to use an alternate domain extension, where the domain extension itself completes or itself is the last word in the business name, for example: delicio.us, planatriptomorroc.co, healthy.life, etc.

Does anyone have experience using a non-.com? What advice would you offer?
