Success has a lot to do with your sense of being Find out how to train yourself to make money and stay in tune with your mind, body and soul
Hello r/entrepreneur!
I am a long-time subscriber/lurker/contributor here (made a new account to focus my efforts) and I wanted to tap into the minds of this wonderful subreddit and see if any of you could give me some feedback & ideas to help me develop a marketing plan for growth.
I am a close-up sleight of hand artist, combining comedy and magic tricks to entertain people at parties and events. Mostly what I do is 'mingle-magic', meaning I walk around during a cocktail party or move from table to table in a seated gathering. I do stage shows for crowds of 15-30 people at a time, but my routines aren't built to entertain much more than that (not that its impossible, I just prefer a more intimate setting). As of tomorrow I will be officially taking the plunge in rebuilding my entertainment company from the ground up.
First, some history: About 6 years ago, I was running a small entertainment company on Long Island. It had started with myself doing basically freelance close-up magic at private events, and eventually I got busy enough to have two other magicians I would send out on jobs, as well as offering other services at Trades Shows to network within the industry (DJs, wedding bands, Limos, etc) for referral fees.
My initial marketing plan involved:
-
Getting jobs weekly or bi-weekly at restaurants in the area that allowed me to generate an income during the week (when people generally don't have events) and pass out 100-200 business cards a night.
-
A very, very basic website that was honestly just a placeholder page with my contact information and an email address attached.
-
Signing up for showcases and trade shows focused on weddings/bar mitzvahs.
-
Networking with local wedding planners, catering halls, DJ/Entertainment Companies, etc. to get referrals and pay them a portion of my fee.
I've been 'out of the game' (working in finance, sitting at a desk) for the last 6 years, but I was still performing on weekends when I would get calls, and annual charity events that I had been part of for years were always still there. I want to blow this thing up and get back into it full swing; This time I have the advantage of the r/Entrepreneur hivemind to help me out. Having an outside observer would help me see this from all angles.
The crux of my post: Is there anything I could be or should be doing that I am currently not seeing? Do you have any ideas to help me blow this up proper? Any applications of my skillset that I could use in creative ways that I am not seeing?
Thank you in advance for the help!
