How important is a sales funnel?

 

My website offers an online health coaching program that's similar to a few other programs out there, but superior in some ways. These other programs just have one page on their site dedicated to the program, with the rest of the site containing other info like blog posts, reviews, etc.

A while back I took an advanced consulting course run by Neil Patel, and it's all about setting up sales funnels, where you offer a free lead magnet, small cost "trip wire," which then leads into the core offer, the actual program.

I've been putting it together, but throughout all the time-consuming work of doing that. I'm constantly wondering, is this effective?

When I try to look up impartial information on this stuff, all I come across is similar websites hawking their sales funnel information. It's kinda perplexing to me that this sales technique is apparently crucial to selling online, but the only sites I see using it are themselves trying to sell you on that very concept.
