Most realistic Alibaba payment method?

Hey guys - I'm looking for advise about how best to pay an Alibaba seller.

So I've used a particular supplier on Alibaba for my past two orders. First $70, then $180 - both via PayPal. Everything worked out fine, my package was trackable and delivered via DHL and the seller was easy to contact and very helpful.

I'm now looking to up my quantity and order $1000 worth of product, however, I am uncertain about using PayPal for this kind of transaction. After I suggested Alibaba Secure Payment, the seller (2 year Gold Supplier) suggested we use TT, however, this surely carries the same risks as PayPal?

Here is what they said when I asked about using Alibaba Secure Payment:

"For the payment, could we via TT? Via alibaba trade assurance is very complex, and cost many time on the tax. it seems there is extra charge?"

I want my payment to be protected, but at the same time I don't want to damage any trust between myself and these suppliers. My gut feeling is that they are genuine, but I still feel it would be a risk sending $1000 to someone I've never met.

Are these secure payment methods realistic when dealing with 'relatively' small payments?
