The definition of Entrepreneur : Risks and Reward

en·tre·pre·neur

noun : a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.

This word has gathered quite a stigma over the last few years as more and more people are qualifying themselves as such. The problem is, those who aren't willing to take the financial risk to do so shouldn't really label themselves as an entrepreneur...and that's okay!

If you haven't started a sole pro, LLC, corp, or any other type of legally filed business...then you are simply a freelancer.

Everyone starts off as a freelancer when they don't work for someone else and I feel as though it should be a stepping stone title.

  • Freelancer
  • Entrepreneur / Small Business Owner
  • Agency
  • Investor

This is a very basic way to look at the market. Obviously there are a few levels in between but for those who are just getting started...this should be plenty.

WHY IS IT SO BAD TO BE A FREELANCER?

Well, it's absolutely not. This just means you are more in the mercenary part of your career. Save up your money project by project and start a company. Once you've done that you can be considered an entrepreneur.

Having a website DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN ENTREPRENEUR. While you are on the right path to becoming one, you simply hold internet real estate and there is nothing on it but a platform.

I figured I would put my 2 cents in here today as I am trying to become more active in the community.

What is the reward for being an entrepreneur?

You can say that without you...none of this would have happened.
