"Put your product on the shelves." What about software?

Success has a lot to do with your sense of being Find out how to train yourself to make money and stay in tune with your mind, body and soul

Everyone knows this famous quote. If you have the best product in the world but the customer can't buy it in Bestbuy, they probably won't care. And the opposite: if you have not the best product in the world, it will still be bought if people can find in on the shelves. For example those cheap Chinese chargers or battery banks. They are everywhere, and they are selling a ton. And the success or failure of your product is essentially a decision made by Bestbuy, whether they will benefit from their margins on your product or not. Unless it's an iPhone of course that has to be sold by them as well and when there's the manufacturer who dictates the terms.

Anyway, that paragraph was about physical products. But what about software? There is a shelf for that as well, but you won't put your side project on DVDs next to PS4 games, right? And what if that's just a website or an app - you can't put it on the shelf as well. So what is a shelf for software? Is it media coverage? Or is it the customer that is sharing about your software product to others? And how to reach that customer or media?

First you need to understand if your product brings any value. What is the right way to do it? Again, ask the customer. How would you do it? Spending money on paid Google ads for the product that may not even see the world? Write blog posts with catchy titles like 'how I/we got/hacked xxx subscribers in 2/6/30/60 days' like tons of marketing-BS-products do these days? It looks like the issue is the same with real-world products. You put some 'growthhack' sh*t on the shelf of the Internet and everyone looses their mind. You create a boring but helpful product - no one bats an eye.

I understand that this topic has more questions than answers, and that's on purpose.

What are your thoughts ENTREPRENEURS on putting a good software product into the world, getting first customers, getting first paid customers (because you can't live for a good word, right?), etc.?
